Sedlauncher.exe High Cpu Usage | Fixed

There have been a lot of requests that Sedlauncher.exe is causing a spike in CPU usage and leaving no space for running other programs. Basically, Sedlauncher.exe is a key feature of windows KB4023057 update service package that aims in overall improvement of the system.

Ironically, it is doing opposite of what it is developed for doing. Users have been reporting constantly on Reddit that after that update, the PC has become a trash and useless as per them. So, we did some research and came up with this article.

Some fixes to Sedlauncher.exe CPU usage

1. Stopping and disabling the Windows Remediation Service

To get started with this fix, follow the steps below.

  • Press Windows +R key at same time.
  • It will open the run dialog box.
  • In the search box, enter services.msc.
  • Press enter.
  • Now, in the list of services, try finding Windows Remediation Service or
  • After locating, double click the same to open its properties.
  • In the properties section, find the startup type.
  • From the drop-down menu, select disabled.
  • After doing the same, click apply and restart the PC to check if the problem is solved.

2. Removing the service completely

If the above method did not work due to any reason, try this method by following the steps below.

  • Press Windows +I key at same time.
  • It will open settings.
  • In settings, enter apps.
  • In the same tab, scroll down until you find a service called Windows setup Remediations (x64 KB4023057) or it might be present there as Update for Windows for x64-based Systems (KB4023057).
  • Select the program and right-click to Uninstall the same.

3. Disabling the REMPL task

To get started with this fix, follow the steps below.

  • Press Windows +R key at same time.
  • It will open the run dialog box.
  • In the search box, enter tasksched.msc.
  • Press enter.
  • In the same window, click to Task scheduler library from the left panel.
  • Move to Microsoft>Windows>rempl file.
  • Now, on the left side, a file named as shell will be present.
  • Click and delete the same.

Restart the computer to check if the problem is solved.

4. Blocking the service using firewall

To block the service,

  • Select the Cortana icon and search for Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Move to Advanced settings from the right panel.
  • Choose the Outbound Rules option.
  • Select the New Rule option.
  • Find the Program file and click next.
  • Move to location of the Windows Remediation Service.
  • Choose the exe file and click Next 3 times in a row.
  • Enter the name and click Finish.
